A huge milestone in this parenting journey is when your kids start school. You might have started thinking about finding the perfect school for your kids as soon as they were born! Good schools are important in the growth and development of every child. Here are some ideas to help you find the perfect school for your kids.
As an educator for the last 17 years in the Dallas area, I can honestly say that there are so many good schools! It’s just a matter of finding the best school that will meet the needs of your children. There are lots of things to consider and plan for. You need to do a little homework and this can take some preparation.
Time
Give yourself plenty of time to find the right school, you don’t want to rush into anything and have regrets. If you are considering preschool for your child then start early so you will be fully ready when the time is right. If you are moving into a new area then give yourself time to find the right neighborhood and school.
Talk to Friends
One of the best ways to start is to tell your friends and ask for recommendations. As Moms, we thrive on word of mouth! If you have a friend that so happy at a certain school wouldn’t you be more inclined to check it out? I know that I would! Ask your Mom friends and relatives too. Someone is bound to know someone or know of someone that can help give your more information.
Research
What exactly do you want? Are you wanting to go public or private? Make a list of the perfect school and then start doing some research. Look online and then actually drive by the schools. See if they will allow you to do a tour. Some good places to look when looking at Texas public schools are School Digger, Great Schools, and Neighborhood Scout. These are just some of the online resources! There is so much online to help get you started.
What’s Important to You?
When my daughter was about to start her elementary years I wanted small class size. I think there is something so important about more attention. In a larger class with more than 5 teachers per grade level sometimes students can get lost. Small class size was important to me so that’s how I started my search for the perfect school for her. Everyone has their own opinions so make a list of your top choices and then compare schools to find a good match! Do you have a special needs child or a high achieving child? Look to the schools and see what programs they offer.
By taking your time and doing some good research you can find the best school for your kids too! What are some things you look for in the perfect school?
