‘Tis the season for all the coughing. I don’t know how it is in your house but my kids have been coughing on and off due to our weather changing constantly hot then cold, hot then cold. One of my best tips is using a good rub on their feet and chest to help settle a cough, but the store brand can be expensive. I decided to make my own cough rub with my favorite essential oils.

I feel so helpless when my kids are coughing at night. It seems like they are just fine during the day but the minute they lie down all the drainage runs and they cough and cough. I know they are not getting good restful sleep when they are coughing and I’m not either.
A few years ago a friend suggested to smother Vicks Rub on their feet and then put socks on over them. This does seem to help and I’ve used that tip for years now on both kids. I love Vicks rub but it can be so expensive. A small container is close to $5 or more.
I’ve always been a fan of essential oils and use them for my migraines. I diffuse oils in our home and in the kids rooms. I have a great supply on a variety of oils so I use them pretty much daily. Several of my favorites are eucalyptus, breath easy, and thieves. These are all great oils for cough and flu season.
To make your own Cough Rub you will need some coconut oil and your oils. I used eucalyptus and breath easy for my homemade cough rub. You will also need a small container with a lid to keep the leftover rub to use. I labeled mine so we all know what is and can (hopefully) find it when the coughing starts up.

I have been buying a Breathe stick for my chest – I never thought to just make some myself. This is genius!
I might have to make up some with Copaiba for sore muscles, too.
