We are a taco loving family. We have some version of tacos at least 3-4 times a month. I love there are so many different ways you can fix tacos and when it’s something my whole family likes we eat it frequently! One thing that is a necessity for good tacos is a good salsa. I’m very picky about my salsa so I like to make it at home. Here is a great recipe for homemade salsa that takes just minutes to make!
While shopping at Walmart I discovered all the Old ElPaso products. They have everything from tortillas to beans to taco shells. I thought these taco boats looked so fun and I thought my kids would love them! We were having tacos the following night for dinner while we watched football. Nothing goes better with football then tacos and homemade salsa.

Homemade salsa takes just a few minutes to make and is so much better than any jarred stuff. You will need:
- 1 can of whole tomatoes (or cut up some fresh tomatoes)
- 1 small jalapeno washed and sliced up
- white onion diced (I used about 1/2 of an onion)
- garlic salt
- cumin (a few sprinkles)
- cilantro
- tablespoon of sugar
In a food processor, mix together the tomatoes, onion, cilantro (this can be omitted but I LOVE cilantro so I use a lot!), jalapeno (more or less depending on how spicy you like it, I use less), A small spoon full of sugar, and a few sprinkles of cumin. Blend it according to how chunky or runny you like salsa. I like really runny salsa so I blend it up pretty good. Now give it a taste. If you think it needs more spice then add a little more jalapeno. If it’s too spicy then add in a few more tomatoes and a bit more sugar to off set the spice. I had to mix in 2 batches since I only have a small food processor but I used a ton of cilantro. Yum! This is the perfect topper to the yummy chicken taco boats I made.
For the chicken tacos I used ground chicken and taco seasoning. I made a few toppings of cheese, lettuce, and put everything in the Old ElPaso taco boats. Like a taco bar style where everyone could make their own. The taco boats were so great because they didn’t fall apart like most taco shells do. It was so good and everyone loved it!
Are you ready to try this easy homemade salsa recipe? My husband declared it the best salsa he’s ever had! Living in Texas and surrounded by good salsas, that is a huge compliment!
