A baby changes everything right? As a new Mom, I remember not knowing anything. I got tons of tips and ideas from my fellow Moms but I really had to learn and experience true motherhood from myself when I was finally alone with baby. When all the family was gone, friends and visitors had gone home, and it was just me and baby. Now what? I certainly learned some tips and tricks those first few months! I’ve put together 3 of my best first time parent tips.
First Time Parent Tip Number 1: Follow a Schedule and Stick to it.
It’s really important to get a baby on schedule right away. I learned quickly that if I didn’t feed mine enough during the day then they’d be up all night wanting those extra feedings.
If it was time for a feeding and baby was napping during the day I would wake them up. This was when they were really little (6 mths and younger).
First Time Parent Tip Number 2: Don’t worry about everything, and stay off of google!
I know this sounds silly but I really wish I would have not been so worried. Of course, it’s only natural to worry but try to just enjoy the precious and sweet time.
I remember having my first baby I had a bad cough in the hospital and then my poor itty baby got my same cough and I was worried sick. Here was my 4 day old baby coughing and I was so nervous. I said to the nurse “isn’t there something you can give her??” She just looked at me and said “your germs are now her germs too.” It’s very true. It turns out she was just fine in a few days.
First Time Parent Tip Number 3: Set Up Diaper Stations Around Your House
You won’t believe how often you are changing diapers (especially at first!) I set up a few diaper stations in the living room and even my bedroom so I wouldn’t be going back and forth to the baby’s room and it was such a lifesaver of a time. I put a small basket with wipes, diapers, cream, a change of clothes for baby, and anything else diapering I might need each station (like a bag to throw away dirty diapers!) and I was all set. This was also great for when any family came over to help me they always could see a place to change the baby.
Speaking of diapers, friends will probably give you all advice on the best diapers that are best for boys vs. girls. I tried out almost every brand myself. Luvs available at Walmart is a great choice because it provides Ultra Leakguard protection and it also offers a money back guarantee! No wonder they are the official diaper of experienced parents.
Luvs diapers are also affordable too! This week in the Sunday paper, (8/26) you can find a brandSAVER coupon $2 off two bags or one box of Luvs diapers at Walmart.
Are you a first time parent or experienced Mom? What advice would you give?
