I love when my kids want to help me in the kitchen. Yes, it sometimes takes some extra patience but they are learning so many valuable skills.  Do you let your kids help you in the kitchen? Here are 5 reasons to cook with your kids.

5 Reasons to Cook with your Kids

Life Skills: Cooking is something they will have to do eventually on their own. I know it’s a ways off but starting them helping me gets them involved and learning the process.

Reading/Math: When you cook you have to know how to read and do some math. Reading and following directions is essential or your recipe won’t turn out correctly. Also, math is very much involved when we are measuring! It’s a great homework assignment!

New smells and foods: Having kids help cook gets them used to new foods. It’s fun to experiment and try something new every once in awhile. They can learn what foods have certain smells and how things taste as we eat it.

Togetherness/Spending Time: This is a big one: When you are cooking with your kids you are spending time together! No electronics or tv, just you and the kids inside working together. This is a win-win. I love making memories and cooking together.

Nutrition: You can really teach kids a lot about nutrition as you cook. It’s important to start early and talking about good for you foods and learning how much food is a serving. Plus when kids are involved cooking they are more likely to eat it since they helped!

Recently, we got to try out a family style box from HelloFresh. HelloFresh is a customized meal subscription box that is sent directly to your door, ready for you to cook at home. Once on the site you pick a plan that works best for you. It’s customized to how many people in your family and how many meals you want each week. There is a classic, veggie, and family plan as options. I love all the options, there is something for everyone.

Cooking With Kids

Each week a HelloFresh box will be delivered to your door on your day of preference. This was seriously the best thing ever! After a long day at work and then with kids we came home and found our box on the front porch. I was jumping for joy!

Included is a large box with individual meals and a meal guide/recipe. Everything is packed so nicely and all fresh foods. (The large box is so fun for little kids to decorate. This kept my 3 year old very occupied for a long time. He made it his rocket ship and would blast off!!

Included in your box are easy to follow picture instructions step by step. I loved how clear everything was. They tell you exactly what tools to have out like bowls, knife, ect. and send you everything you need for the entire meal. The only thing extra I needed was olive oil but I always have that!

We had so much fun cooking everything.  Together we made meals that I hadn’t made before but everything was really, really good. My kids loved the turkey burgers with cranberry spread and side salad.

As a busy working Mom I loved not having to go to the grocery store!! It saved me time and money. I was able to cook everything and follow the easy directions. The recipe tells you exactly what you need and step by step with pictures that you can follow! My 9 year old read all the directions and we worked together. It was so much fun!
