We’ve had the grocery store ALDI in our town for about 4-5 years. I decided to take trip this summer to see what it was all about. I had been told by people a little of what to expect so I knew to lower my standards a bit 🙂
My first objective was to get a cart. I noticed the carts were all chained together and the more I pulled on them the more mad I got that I couldn’t get one out! Luckily a nice man walked by and said I needed to put in a quarter. He said to you get your quarter back if you return the cart. Then he went on an on about how wonderful it was because carts wouldn’t be flying around the parking lot. Okay idea, I guess!
Now inside with my shopping cart I could see more of the store. It was
pretty different from any other grocery store I’d been to. What I did
notice was the prices. The prices were very cheap. No fancy displays or
anything like that. Just food stacked up in boxes.
I did buy those sweet potato chips and they were divine!! They cost $1.79 and so worth this! Great with a sandwich or a dip! So I grab a few bags of chips and keep strolling along. I was surprised about how much stuff they really did have. It wasn’t all name brands, but that’s okay to me.
They did have a small end cap of baby stuff and I did see these diapers for about $4. Since I have a diaper wearing baby I decided to try it out. I’d give the diapers a score of maybe a 2/10. They were okay. They just didn’t seem to keep my baby boy dry enough like other diapers. Owell, it was worth it to try!
They had a lot of products with this brand, Fit and Active. I got a few pre-packed cookie snacks and they were really good! I think they were $2 a box and had 6 separate sacks in each box. My kids both loved them too.
I didn’t buy any cold items this day but did notice they had a good assortment of cheeses and meats for great prices. They had something very comparable to lunchables for kids and that was cheap as well. They did have some produce but it was VERY small amount and they didn’t have just everything you find in a regular grocery store produce section.
I did not buy this pizza but a friend suggested it and said how tasty it was and was around $5. Looked pretty good to me!
Here’s my shopping cart so you can see the ‘key’ on the right hand side
and the chain. See my quarter in there? I did get it back when I
returned the cart!
The big thing to know about ALDI is that they have VERY few people working there. They have few employees that really don’t do much to keep costs down on prices. When you check out someone scans your items and that’s about it. It’s up to you to bag. Also, they ONLY accept cash/depit or check. Make No credit cards. They said it costs too much and once again, they want to keep their prices down. Also, bring your own bags or you will be forced to buy their bags or go bagless :)Overall it was a good visit. I would go back again. I would go more on a regular basis I think if it was closer to me. Being a working mom I’m all about convenience!! I suggest you check out ALDI sometime! Maybe you will really like it and cut some of your grocery bill!!
