Have you ever thought about traveling to Chicago with Kids? We did last year and had so much fun! I was so surprised by all the family fun events and things to do (in the summer!) that Chicago had to offer a family. It was such a great place to take kids. We always had something to do and everyone had a great time. Here are some things to do in Chicago with Kids during the summertime.
Budget-Friendly Things to do in Chicago With Kids
Navy Pier ~ This is a place you can easily go to more than once. There is so much to do at the Navy Pier! There are restaurants, games, shops, and it’s a great people watching place! We even found some fireworks to watch one night so check the weekly summer schedule. It’s a must do.
Play in the sand of Lake Michigan ~ Close to the Pier is a great sandy beach area of Lake Michigan. We brought a towel and let our little one go swimming. It was cold (water!) but so fun and the water was really pretty.
Lincoln Park Zoo ~ This is a great zoo and totally FREE!!! They don’t have a huge amount of animals but the zoo is so pretty and it was so nice to walk around.
The Bean ~ One of the most famous landmarks but a must see. It’s close to Millennium Park (below) so we went by a few times.
Millennium Park, Crown Fountain ~ This is a cool fountain and a great place for the kids to get WET! It does heat up in the Chicago summer so this is a great stop to cool off!
Maggie Daley Park ~ By far, this is the coolest park I’ve ever seen in my entire life! My youngest went NUTS. He cried even worse when we left. I’ve just ever seen a park like this. Make sure you go here with the kids. Be prepared for lots of kids so you have to watch yours but it’s so cool!
More things to do in Chicago with Kids
Take in a Cubs game ~ This was on my husband’s bucket list and a splurge but so much fun for the 2 of them!
Visit the Museums (there are tons and so many great ones!!) The weather was so nice when we went we just couldn’t justify being inside a museum with a 5-year-old!!
Do a boat tour ~ You’ll find several that leave off the Navy Pier. We did the architecture boat tour. It was a longer one so worth the money and interesting but the 5-year-old really thought it was boring! (Just FYI). It was nice to sit and relax for 90 minutes though.
Shedd Aquarium ~ This is supposed to be an excellent aquarium. We saved this idea for a rainy day but we never had one! We have great aquariums in Dallas so we hated to miss the outside fun.
Sky Deck at Willis Tower ~ We did not do this either but when we go back we for sure will!
Besides all the fun things on this list we also found so many outdoor concerts and movies going on all over the place. Chicago has so many things to do for even the youngest!
