Today I’m documenting my working day so you can read all about it! I’ve done several Day in the Life’s over the years but this is the first ‘working’ one. Here goes… (lots of blurry camera phone photos!)
4:50 am My alarm goes off. Today is a workout day. The last several weeks I’ve been getting together with other moms in the neighborhood and working out at the park. It’s hard to get up but I feel better after 🙂
5:55 am. I’m back home (luckily we just work out across the street from me!) and shower/get ready for the day
6:30 I’m dressed and now in the kitchen putting together breakfast for the kids. Sometimes my oldest is awake and sometimes I’m waking her up at this time. Her school starts early.
6:30-7:20 is the fast and furious time. I’m running getting 2 kids dressed/fed/ready for the day. Husband is up getting ready. It’s the time of day that it’s blurry to me. I never sit down. I eat standing up or not at all, zipping back packs, filling water bottles, snapping lunches together. It’s a rush! 7:20 Some days I carpool, other days my daughter gets picked up. Today it’s my turn so I’m off with my daughter. Brother cries when we leave and holds his arms up to come too! Husband drops him off at sitter on his way to work. We kiss good-bye and we go.
7:30 I wave goodbye to my daughter and her friend as I peel out of the drive way and I make my trek to my school. It usually takes 15 minutes, depending on fun Dallas suburb traffic.
Today I arrive around 7:47. I run in, turn on computer, scan morning emails and get set up for my day. Let the craziness begin. I work/pull resource groups until 12:15. We do lots and lots of reading. And more reading! At 12:15 I bolt out the door! I am very lucky to be able to work only part time. It’s a rare position that is not a for sure job year to year. On my way home I run a quick grocery store errand then head to pick up my favorite boy. He is all smiles and so happy to see me. One of my favorite times of the day.
Now it’s just the 2 of us until his sister gets home from school. Usually brother is ready for a nap right away. We play for a little bit then he crashes. It’s usually around 1 or shortly after. I use the time to straighten up from the breakfast mess and sometimes I get dinner started. I also might start some laundry. Most days I take some time for myself on catch up on a few DVR shows.
2:45 It seems like a few minutes go by and it’s already time to get Big sis. I have such a far walk to get her, like a few steps! The perks of living across the street from her school! We come back and then the ‘fun’ starts. Ha! Snacks, homework, afternoon activities. I feel like I never get a minute to breathe because we seem to always have something and we have lots of homework to accomplish. Brother wakes up around this time and he is slow to wake up. He likes to see whats going on and loves playing with her sister.
4:30 No ‘true’ afternoon activities for us today so we decide to go watch Daddy’s football game. I feed Ramsey an early dinner of oatmeal and applesauce. One of his favorites! G doesn’t want a full meal yet so she wants apple and pb snack and we bring more snacks for the game. We pack up and head to the game.
5:30 Daddy is a middle school football coach and games are early in the week. We’ve never been able to make it before because it was either so dreadfully hot or we had something after school. Today the weather isn’t perfect but it sure was fun! R loved running/climbing on the bleachers and G thought it was so fun her Daddy was on the field running all the plays. I let G run out on the field in between games and then we headed home.
7:00 We get home and I give R a quick bath and some milk then he’s off to sleep. G had a lot of snacks at the game so she’s pretty much full. I snacked on hummus and carrots so that was my dinner too. G takes a shower and we do some more reading. I also let her watch a few minutes of tv.
7:45 We start the night time routine for G. She’s always been easy to bed but lately she’s been having a rough time. We haven’t quite figured it all out but we read lots of books and lay with her and she finally gets sleepy.
8:15 I look around our messy house and start getting lunches ready for the next day. G almost always brings her lunch and I bring a lunch snack as well. This is the time I’m returning emails, sorting or starting laundry, cleaning the kitchen. All those tasks you HAVE to do. I try to be finished by 9 but sometimes that doesn’t happen. Most nights I end up starting lunches for the next day and get my clothes ready. Husband is still not home so I’m in my bed watching tv by 9:00. He gets home around 9:45 and we catch up on the day’s events then I’m off to sleep. I think it takes me all of 10 seconds to crash.
