I love finding toys or gift ideas that require my kids to be creative and have fun. I also love gifts that are quiet and don’t require batteries (am I right???!!) Here are some great options for gifts where kids can be creative and draw or use their imagination. Some of these are great building toys and some are simple as paper & pencil gift ideas. If you have some on your list that are creative thinkers then these are the gifts for you!

Picasso Tiles
A 3-D building stacking set that really can be for both boys or girls. Talk about being free to create and use imagination! My kids have similar ones but they are both getting some of this set to have! They will love them. I love how quiet they are and how they snap easily together for kids to build and construct many different things.
They store easily in a container and would be great to travel with too! Tell Grandma she needs a set at her house too! This is fun for all ages but most recommended for ages 3+.
Boogie Boards
These are something I always recommend! They make great birthday gifts and even Moms/Dads would like them too. Moms can write a shopping list or notes and then it easily erases with the touch of the top button.
Kids can play games with them and they would be great for the car! My daughter has one and this year my 4-year old is getting one! This is one of our favorites for sure 🙂
OOLY Gift Sets
These are awesome gift sets for kids that like to draw and create. They have gift sets for all sorts of ages and boys/girls.

This would be top of my 10-year old’s list. She LOVES this sort of thing!! Pencils, pouches, erasers- this is a fun gift idea!
Origami City Kit
This easy origami kit contains colorful paper-folding sheets and instructions for exciting vehicle models as well as trees, houses and bonus plans for constructing a skyscraper and a bridge! The LEGO City® series is the company’s longest-running theme and—like LEGO®—this kit appeals to kids who want to build and play with their completed models. Young builders are invited to unleash their imaginations and pretend-play with their creations for hours on a large, fold-out city map.
This kit includes:
- 130+ colorful stickers for decorating models
- 40 double-sided paper folding sheets
- A 48-page full-color instruction book
- 12 exciting origami models + 2 bonus models
- Fold-out play mat: full-color, pre-printed on one side; outlined on the other — perfect for coloring
Osmo Genius Kit
This might not be a totally quiet activity that I like but this is a really creative and hands-on activity that I would highly recommend. Your kids even might have used them in their schools! Perfect for your creative thinkers.
You do need an Ipad for this device to work! Here’s more about it:
- Five award-winning games that transform your iPad into a hands-on learning tool
- Turns core subjects, like math (Numbers) and spelling (Words), into fearless fun
- Encourages visual thinking (Tangram), problem-solving (Newton), and creative drawing skills (Masterpiece)
- Designed to adjust to kids aged 5-12’s skill level. Toy-Of-The-Year-2015 | TIME’s-Best-Inventions-of-2014
- Comes with the Osmo base (stand & reflector), plus playing pieces. Requires iPad to play.
This would make a great gift idea for a family with multiple aged kids. There are so many uses for it and it’s won so many awards! When I taught elementary school, we used some of these with our small groups and the kids loved them!
Kwik Stix
If you have kids that love to paint or draw then this would be great! They are non-toxic paints that dry in 90 seconds! They are clean and so easy to use. They come in so many bright, fun colors. This would make a great stocking stuffer too.
Have preschool aged kids on your list? Try these fun and educational board games that my 4-year-old is loving right now!
