March 5-9th marks National School Breakfast Week (NSBW). It’s a week-long celebration in schools across the country!
This post is sponsored by National School Nutrition Association. All opinions are mine.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but sadly, some of our children are not eating breakfast. It could be several factors including poor nutrition, time, and money. The good news is that our schools are working really hard to provide meals for our kids to get their day off to a great start!
We want all children to have the same opportunities as everyone else. We want them to be able to have a healthy breakfast in the mornings to have a great start to their school day no matter where they live.
That’s why the School Nutrition Association (SNA) created the School Breakfast Program (SBP). It’s a federally assisted meal program designed to ensure all children have access to a well-balanced breakfast at school and to promote healthy eating habits.
Research shows that children who participate in the school breakfast program eat more fruits than those who do not eat breakfast. They also eat more of a variety of foods as well.
My kids have always loved eating breakfast at school! We don’t do it very often because they have to be there super early to get breakfast at their school.
Are your kids slow in the mornings? Here are some tips that help us speed up the school mornings.
- They have their school clothes picked out the night before and they cannot change anything! They even have shoes and socks ready too. This is a huge time saver.
- Backpacks are also ready and by the front door.
- I’m the one that makes lunches so I have some stuff inside already that can sit overnight so I can make the rest in the mornings.
- We started putting alarms in our kids’ rooms as they were learning to tell time so they can help set an alarm to get up. This really helped!
- A sticker or reward chart works great for making sure beds are made or other chores are complete are a great way to give show positive behavior.
