Besides the basics of kitchen handling like the cleanliness and reusability of the left-over ingredients, saving time in the kitchen is also an important culinary factor that could make you distinguished from the others. So, here are some quick tips that could help cut down your kitchen time efficiently and effectively.
Make Sure Of Grinders
A quality spice grinder can be a great time saver. There are so many different types of spice grinders available online to choose from. Know what grinder to use for what purpose and save a great deal of time making the best use of them.
Use a Trash Bowl!
Even if it doesn’t sound too fancy, but its handy. It can make a great impact in reducing your kitchen time. Just get a big bowl or an open container, leave it by your chopping board. Toss all and every piece of trashes and scraps in it as you prepare the ingredients for the dish. This will save the cleanup time.
Microplane the Garlic
People normally use it to make lemon zest or for grating spices. However, your Microplane can do more than that. Microplane the garlic and effectively reduce your time for garlic mincing and you could do the same for ginger too.
Keep a Dry Erase Board
This is a favorite culinary school trick. Have a dry erase board in front of your refrigerator and maintain a list of things available in your stock. List according to your choice and advantage, you may separate the different items like herbs, dairies and produce etc. Also, you can use the list to know the items to be used first and which can wait for a while. This will save all your time in front of an open fridge door.
Save the Cheese Rinds
Forget the wastage! Put the cheese rinds in a Ziploc bag and keep it in the fridge. You can use these flavor boosters in the next round of your homemade stock or tomato sauce. Intensive umami factor of the Parmesan serves well but an addition of the hard cheese rinds can be fantastic too.
Use Paper Towel to Wrap the Herbs
Freshness of the herbs is not something to be compromised. For reusing the herbs with the sustained freshness, use this simple trick. Collect a damp paper towel and wrap the herbs gently with it. Now, put the paper wrapped herbs in a container or big bag and keep it in the fridge. This will increase the shelf-life of your herbs greatly.
Use Rice to Clean the Spice And Coffee Grinder
A coffee grinder is not only there to grind your coffee but also you can use this cheap instrument to grind all kinds of herbs and spices. The only problem is to clean it perfectly after grinding coffee or cumin that may leave the scent even after the wash. To overcome this odor issue, take some uncooked rice and grind them well until you can no longer smell the odd scent.
Freeze the Wine
To preserve the cooking wine, you can use the ice tray in your fridge. Forget the bottles and keep room for other things in the fridge. Ice tray will part the cooking wine into different portions and you may choose to use one after the other and maintain it like a batch.
Use a Squeeze Bottle for Cooking Oil
You can use a simple plastic squeeze bottle to keep the cooking oil for a week-load fashion within your hand’s reach on the cupboard and put the main container of the oil in a dark shelf away from the cooker. This will save your cooking oil from any exposure to light, heat or air that could be damaging for the oil in stock.
Keep Drains Running Fine All The Time
Your life around the house can be very difficult if one or more of the drains in your house is always clogged. Even slow flowing of drains can take you a long time to do tasks in kitchen and bathrooms. Find the best drain cleaner available around you or online and make good use of them from time to time to have all the drains work nicely.
