Do you ever feel clueless about what’s going on in the world? You know, the world outside of diapers, laundry, groceries and kids’ soccer games?
Often I get the feeling that we’re not only expected to be awesome Moms who cook and look fantastic at all times…but we’re also supposed to be knowledgeable about what’s going on with politics and the economy. Yeah right! I confess, I’ve never been all that interested in the news anyway, but now that I’m an adult (I’ve been one for a loooong time) I have to make an effort, right? A lot of things going on in our country and the world will directly affect my children’s future, after all.
But trying to stay informed about what’s going on in the world is tricky at this time of my life. With the couple of hours per night that I have to relax, I want to catch up on my email, my favorite Bravo shows and just…relax. I’m not likely to spend time watching Fox News or reading the newspaper…I’m just not.
Never fear, there is a great news brief source out there that will keep you mildly informed and even entertained! Really all I need is the day’s news SIMPLIFIED in a few sentences. I finally discovered The Skimm! Apparently Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and a million other people (literally) love it as much as I do.
The Skimm describes itself this way:
We do the reading for you – across subject lines and party lines – and break it down with fresh editorial content. We read. You Skimm.
The women who started it are in their 30’s, so the clever news briefs have a young vibe to them. You will often find a Friends reference or a 90’s music reference. They make sure you get the most current new stories in a really lighthearted and entertaining way. It’s fun to read.
So in conclusion, since I don’t listen to NPR in the car (I listen to Disney Song and Story CDs), The Skimm will be my go-to for world news. I receive it in my email inbox as well as in my Facebook feed.

P.S. The Skimm did not ask me (or pay me) to advertise for them or review their website. I just wanted to share about it with my fellow busy Mommies out there because I think it’s fantastic!
I love The Skimm too! It makes me feel so smart. Great post!
Thanks Hannah!

I will have to check this out, because I after a busy day the last thing I want to do is decipher all the news.
You should try it! It's so easy. Even if you don't make tacos out of it, the chicken can be used for any dishes 🙂
Wow! Thank you for introducing me to Skimm! I'm also a busy mommy with little time to devote to reading about world happenings.
Great post!
Oops!! "THE Skimm!" 🙂 🙂 🙂
