My daughter’s 2nd grade class is studying Economics, and each child is expected to create a good or service to bring to school this week. They must make it themselves, use only basic (inexpensive or free) supplies, and make 22 of the item. Each child will bring their good or service to school, where they will have a store and “sell” their items to other 2nd graders.
We had to think of something that no one else was doing already, so we brainstormed together and came up with DIY maracas! Making the maracas has turned out to be easy, fun and totally do-able for my 8 year old.
Supplies:
Plastic spoons
Plastic eggs
Dried beans or rice
Designer Duck tape
Scissors
Directions:
Fill each egg 1/3 full of dried beans or rice. Place 2 plastic spoons around the egg (see picture, below). Wrap the Duck tape around the spoons/egg to secure them together. Continue to wrap Duck tape around the length of the spoons until everything is covered. Voila!
We chose 3 different styles of Duck tape so that her maracas might appeal to more students.
This could be also be a fun activity during a play date with friends!
