Ever since we started school in the Fall we’ve been battling colds and sickness with my 3 year old. Constant coughing, sneezing, and runny nose. I was doing some searching online and stopped at an article about giving kids a detox bath. I had never heard of it but thought it sounded easy enough and was worth a try. After the first round of detox bath, I was hooked. A kids detox bath is easy and has so many benefits!
What is a detox bath?
A detox bath is a warm bath that should help rid the body of toxins. Doesn’t a warm bath always make you feel better? Toxins are everywhere from the foods we eat to clothes, and environmental. Toxins can cause irritation if left untreated. A detox bath encourages your body to flush out toxins.
How do you make a detox bath?
It’s really simple! I was surprised at how easy it was. There are actually several recipes you can do but I kept my kids to a simple salt detox bath. All you need is Epsum Salt (found at any big box store like Walmart or Target in the medicine area). You can leave it at that or add some essential oils. I love essential oils and use them for all kinds of things so I had several on hand. I purchase mine mostly from amazon but you probably have a friend that is a seller!
*Fill a bath with warm water to desired amount. (You have to be careful with kids and not get the water too hot!)
*Add 1/2 cup of Epsum salt and use hands to swirl around to get it to mix in the water.
*Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. I used eucalyptus and lavender.
*Have your child get in and relax! Let them have a good soak for at least 10 minutes.
You will need to use your discretion on if your child is age appropriate. This was perfect for my 3 year old. I sat close by to make sure he didn’t swallow any water or try and drink it (because he loves to eat bubbles!) I think 3 is a good enough age but you might disagree. My 9 yr old also started taking detox baths after a long soccer practice. The salt and oils helped her relax and eased her sore muscles. She started requesting one after every practice!
What are the benefits of a detox bath?
There are many benefits to a detox bath including:
- ease stress
- improve sleep
- reduce muscle pain and soreness
- help prevent or ease migraines
- improve concentration
- rid the body of toxins
I am not a Dr. so I am not giving medical advice, just stating my results on this detox bath. If you are interested do some research and see if you think it would help you and your family.
