It’s finally here! Swimming weather! My kids have been begging to swim, and finally the temps have been warm long enough to go for it! Or so we thought. We’ve had a lot of rain lately, so despite some higher temps and sunshine, the water was a little chilly. But you know how kids are…they don’t care! They jumped in anyway!
My girls (ages 8 and 5) swim pretty well on their own, but my 1 year old boy needs my full attention. He wants so badly to be submerged in the water, splashing to his heart’s content. Before he can learn to swim, however, he needs to feel comfortable in the water. This week we tried the new SwimWays Baby Spring Float, and he had a great time, while staying safe in the water! It has a sun canopy, too, which protects his cute little blonde head!
Are you familiar with SwimWays products? They have baby floats, kick boards, life vests, and other swim gear, designed for each stage of learning to swim. SwimWays is committed to educating parents and kids about water safety and the benefits of learning to swim. Accordingly, they started National Learn to Swim Day in 2012. Every year as swim season begins across the country, parents, caregivers and swimmers of all ages are encouraged to raise awareness of the importance of learning to swim. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. We can all help decrease this statistic by teaching our kids to swim and practicing water safety. This year, the National Learn to Swim Day is May 21st. For my family, this will mean launching our swim season with a review of what the kids learned in swim lessons last year. Followed by lots of fun swim time!
Meanwhile, the little guy will continue to acclimate to the water in his SwimWays Baby Spring Float. He can kick his legs, splash with his hands, and become familiar with the concept of being submerged in the water. As you can see in the pictures, he was cold! He didn’t last long in the water, but as things warm up this season, we will definitely be back in the water in our float!
You can find your own SwimWays products at Toys R Us, in the store or online.
